What to do with a 12 yr old boy?

i;m looking for day trips to take with my 12 yr old son. we;ve seen just about everything near our home (dupage county) i;m willing to travel about 1 hour away. anybody got anything? hiking is out. he;s into history and the military and likes to know how things work. but i;m not limiting our trips to just those things. just give me some ideasthanks|||Try going to a civil war reenactment. They don;t happen very often, but they;re really cool and fun to go to.|||take him to a gun shooting range. That will be awesome for him and you|||take him to the shooting range if you have a gun, or buy him a bebe gun and some targets, u could try fishing|||We have sevreal museums and we have a shed aquairum. They are shooting Transformers 3 right now so im pretty sure he would like to see all the action and stuff
