Barber Half Dollars great to collect

The Barber Half Dollar......1892, the long running Seated Liberty coinage was replaced by The Barber coinage, named for the chief engraver of the u.s mint Charles Barber. At the time, there was some mixed sentiment of the new Barber "liberty head " coins, some liked the coins, while others simply did not.One newspaper review of the day said ( im paraphrasing) "Miss liberty on these new coins has the throat of a gladiator" so the appeal, needless to say, was far from universal. The biggest problem with all of the barber coins was the "liberty" which was in very small letters on "miss liberty's "engraved headband , would wear off in a few months of circulation ( this was also a problem with the liberty nickel , also, a Charles Barber design.)this problem would plague these coins for the entire series run. Now, as many collectors and dealers of barber coins know , both the dime and quarter series have "stoppers" or super rare, super expensive coins that "no oneever gets" unless of course , you re very wealthy, such is the case in the dime series as follows: 1894-s worth well over a million dollars!!, and the 1895-o trends 450.00 in g-4 !! To the average collector, a coin much over two or three hundred dollars is out of reach. In the quarter series , you have three stoppers, the 1896-s the trend is over 700.00 in g-4, the 1901-s the trend is over 6,000 !!!in g-4, and last the 1913-s at 1,300-1,500 in g-4!!!!!! these are stoppers, coins you "never get " ( bear in mind too, that these are only in good !!)However, in the barber half dollar series, there are no stoppers !!!! in fact, for three hundred dollars or less a coin, you could have most dates and mint marks in vf-20!!! or better!!with most dates well below that price per coin !!, granted, it will take a least two or three years to geplete , depending , of course on one s ability to gather resources ( financial ) to assemble a collection . With the geing , in recent years of online auctions such as okay, and other similar services, the collector of the 21 st century has the literally the world in which to search , pick, and choose when putting together a collection regardless of the series . So collectors........heres a series to consider, barber half dollars ...great to own, and fantastic to collect...!!!! THANK YOU ......DANNY ANABLE _______"THE CANADA COIN NUT " AUGUST 2006
